This September, California Library Literacy Services (CLLS) celebrates 30 years as a California State Library program that provides services to English speaking adults with low-literacy levels through a network of public libraries. Escondido Public Library Literacy Services, a CLLS affiliate, provides registered learners with free one-on-one or small group instruction by trained volunteer tutors. Literacy learners work to improve basic reading and writing skills and achieve successes that impact their quality of life. As a result, these adults are voting for the first time, reading newspapers, reading aloud to their children, and securing jobs.

“An Evening with Author Victor Villaseñor” is sponsored by Mission Federal Credit Union and the Escondido Public Library Friends of Literacy Services. For information on Escondido Public Library’s hours, services, and events go to library.escondido.org, or contact Deputy City Librarian, Cynthia Smith at 760-839-4329.
